<p>And the most difficult part of the whole arm tone war was an unstable level of motivation. Despite all my efforts, I could not stick with a program for a very long time.</p>
<p>And at times I would reach tipping points, throw my hands up in the air and give up all hope. Then, I would reward myself with endless cookies.</p>
<p>But I had a wake-up call and came to the conclusion that this type of mental lifestyle was not going to get me the sexy arms I so desperately wanted.</p>
<p>So I began doing lots of research. And I&#8217;m happy to say that the research was well worth it because I found the answer to my problem: the one and only David Burns M.D. He created a system for optimizing thought processes. Said system required the avoidance of thought distortions.</p>
<p>So without further delay, here are 3 cognitive distortions you need to avoid that you don&#8217;t fall of the arm tone bandwagon:</p>
<p>1. Black and white distortions. If you are a perfectionist, you most likely suffer from these distortions. If you have to do something perfectly or not at all, then you see things as black and white. Ironically, if you ignore perfectionism and lower your standards you&#8217;ll get better results.</p>
<p>2. Over generalizing distortions. This one is based on the faulty assumption that if something happened to you in the past it will keep on happening again and again in the future. You may tell yourself, for instance, that since you haven&#8217;t been able to lose weight in the past you will never be able to lose weight in the future and every program out there simply won&#8217;t work for you.</p>
<p>3. Mental filtering distortion. This distortion is pure evil because it prevents you from giving yourself enough credit, a critical component to success. For example, let&#8217;s say you have an entire month of solid workouts but miss one workout due to a last-minute commitment. Instead of giving yourself praise for the awesome month of workouts, you ignore them and beat yourself up for the single missed workout that was entirely out of your control.</p>
<p>Keep the above distortions in mind and make sure you avoid them at all costs. Doing so will allow you to win the mental &#8220;arm tone&#8221; war. In the end, the person with the highest level of motivation always wins.</p>
<p>More importantly, however, is to develop the habit of rapid action. After all, this information will be useless unless you act on it quickly.</p>

<p>Thus, here are 5 tips for taking your diet to the next level:</p>
<p>1. Read labels: Don&#8217;t rely on the packaging alone because there are loopholes which allow companies to make misleading claims. Instead, always read the nutrition facts to see exactly what is going into your body. Here are some terms you want to avoid: enriched, bleached or refined flour, partially hydrogenated and corn syrup.</p>
<p>2. Reduce saturated fats as much as possible: Even if you are eating within your target caloric range, you should still strive to reduce saturated fats. You see, these types of fats reduce the amount of nutrients that go into your active tissues, thus feeding your fat cells. Moreover, they age your arteries.</p>
<p>3. Drink before eating: This accomplishes two things. First, you will prevent your body from mistaking thirst signals for hunger signals. Second, you will enhance the digestion of whatever you eat by staying well hydrated.</p>
<p>4. Minimize alcohol consumption: In terms of alcohol, it&#8217;s not just about calories. It&#8217;s more about the impact it has on your hormones. You see, too much alcohol will blunt the amount of hormones your body produces. So make sure you minimize the damage here.</p>
<p>5. Have a worst-case-scenario-meal: It&#8217;s impossible to diet perfectly all the time. There will be times when your hunger simply overtakes you. The key here is to minimize the damage. And I&#8217;ve found that having a high fat and high protein meal does the trick just fine. You see, staying away from carbs is critical when this happens.</p>
<p>You should constantly strive to improve your diet piecemeal. If you do this, you will eventually end up with a very clean eating routine. So make sure you start implementing these tips today!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you would like to lose weight, you must have a plan, a route map to success. This is called a program or programme. There are thousands of programs, but many of them are just just batty. If they sound foolish, they probably are. Have you heard of the &#8216;cabbage water diet&#8217;? It sounds daft and it is. You cannot only drink cabbage water all your life!</p>
<p>Although there is a lot of nonsense talked about losing weight, there are some truths that have a part to play in almost any program you choose to follow. One of these truths is that it is better to eat many small meals throughout the day (approximately 5-6), than to go all day without eating and then stuffing yourself at dinner in the evening. This is commonly called &#8216;grazing&#8217;.</p>
<p>Have you ever asked yourself why this might be so? Well, the fact is, that the average human body can only process about 250 calories per hour. If you eat more than that, you are almost certainly overloading your digestive system. This is why it is important, because if your body cannot use all the calories that you give it, it will stockpile them.</p>
<p>Your body can only use up what it requires to execute the job that it is busy with, that is, what you are putting it through. If you are watching TV, most of those 250 will be stored. If you are exercising, most will be burned up. It stores the remainder as body fat. Your body has learned through evolution that hard times will come, so it prepares for them. It is like us putting excess money in a savings account or people hoarding food if a bad winter is predicted.</p>
<p>However, these days in the West, we rarely face those lean times any longer. Therefore, that fat is never used up and we just keep adding to it until we decide, by choice, to limit our consumption of calories or increase our amount of exercise.</p>
<p>Knowing this information, what can we do with it? Well, if you were to want to lose weight, you ought to be consuming no more than 1,500 calories a day (or whatever your program tells you), so 1,500 divided by 250 is six. if you ate 250 calories every other hour, that would give you twelve hours.</p>
<p>Therefore, eating light but often would be a beneficial strategy or program to follow, because first of all, you are only providing your body with what it needs, when it requires it and secondly, you are able to better maintain a steady blood sugar level, which means that you level out the spikes and troughs you experience in a normal day&#8217;s cycle.</p>
<p>Two hundred and fifty calories does not seem a lot, but it is surprising what it will stretch too, if you take the time to investigate. It is true that you will have to rigorously restrict some foodstuffs, like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, but whoever honestly thought that you could lose weight by eating that stuff anyway?</p>
<p>If you do not have time to cook several times every day, look in your supermarket. There are loads of &#8217;250 calorie&#8217; microwave meals. You don&#8217;t want to eat that? I can&#8217;t blame you. so get a good cookbook, which shows calorie content. You are at work all day? OK, eat some fruit, but choose wisely. It can be done, it only takes a little determination and planning.</p>
