<p>The weight should be light enough so that you can lift a minimum of 8 repetitions for at least 3 sets. You do not want weight too heavy and likewise you do not want weight that is too light. Neither is going to work for you.</p>
<p>You will want your muscles to feel used but not abused after a workout. If your body feels so exhausted that you are going to need several days off, then the amount of lifting is too much. You want to feel just enough so that you know your muscles have been used, but not overused.</p>
<p>You want your body to feel a little tired. If you feel perfectly fine and not in any way worn out after a workout, then you are most likely not lifting enough. In the same way, if you feel terribly exhausted then you are going to have to rethink your plan. It means you are lifting too much and not benefiting. Remember that you need days of rest. So if you exercise your back with a standing press on Tuesday and Thursday, you cannot exercise your back on Wednesday or Thursday.
