Are you sick of seeing that monthly fee debit out of your bank account? Or maybe finding an extra hour in the day to get to the gym and back is just too much. Ever consider just working out at your house?
There are lots of reasons to workout at home; privacy, less spending, less time out of your day etc. The toughest part is finding the space in your house or apartment and committing to actually using it once you set up your home gym fitness equipment.
Will you actually commit to a home workout program?
The truth is, you probably won’t be any more committed than you are when you have to leave the house to workout. You’ll have ups and downs and times when your home gym gathers dust. You’ll also have times that you’re really into it and really appreciate it’s convenience and privacy. The commitment to work out comes from you and having easy access to home gym fitness equipment won’t make you workout, you still have to push yourself.
Fitness Goals
Before you make any quick decisions about working out at home, it’s helpful to make a list of what your goals and are more importantly what things keep you in a good workout routine. If the fact that your friends are expecting you at the gym at 5pm gets you there everyday, working out on your own might be tough to keep up with. If you’re someone that needs to go to classes and wants to get good at something the gym offers like raquetball, you might want to stick with the gym. If your fitness goals and motivation can be accomplished solo, give the home workout at try. Maybe you just want to break a sweat everyday, lose some weight and be able to do pushups with ease. That will be a very manageable goal when working out at home.
Physical Space and Money Concerns
If none of this has scared you away and you’d still like to set up a home gym, you should sit down and really make a plan for where your’re going to put it and how much it’ll cost to get started. Of course, a garage or spare bedroom would be ideal and if you have that, you’re well on your way. If you don’t have that space, could you get by with maybe just a treadmill, free weights and maybe a few workout dvds. It doesn’t take a lot of space to get into shape. If you’ve seen any of those prison shows on tv, you’ll agree. Simple old school workouts work just fine. It’s all about what it will take to get yourself to do the workout.
