Electric Treadmill

I have been on many treadmills over the past 35 years. I also owned a couple… but I have to say the ones I owned I did not use much. I think that is typical for most people who buy these machines. There is a great intention when the machine is first thought of and planned… You look at the internet, you go to the sporting goods stores… you SHOP… You ask friends and finally you get on a few of them and you start making up your mind… it is now down to 2 or 3 machines and you decide go with the one that has a bit better warranty or a better something that is important to you.

Here are the basic things people look for when buying these exercise machines for their home:

- How fast can I go on this thing?

- Can it incline?

- Does it have a feel of being padded when you jog on it? Low impact and better for you knees and back.

- Is it wide enough that you are comfortable on it?

- Does it have the bells and whistles that you need on the controls? Like the speed adjustment, exercise types; like hill, aerobic settings etc.

- Is it quite or noisy?

- What is the warranty?

So you finally settle on one and you buy it and have it delivered to your home and now…. you get to put it together or have someone else do it for you. You already know where you are going to put it. You have been thinking about it for while now. It is ready to go and so are you.

You are ready to go. You get the Ipod on… the water bottle is the fresh new holder and you do your first jog. It feels great. You get off the machine and take a look at it… time for a nice shower.

OK so far so good… Yes? I have one of these machines in my basement. I had it for years… My wife and I were rearing to go and we did for awhile but than the same old story… it collects dust now. I am willing to bet that most people have the same experience with treadmills. The people who are serious about it spend very good money and buy the kinds that are used in the health clubs. The people who really use them use them at the health clubs. Go to a health club and take a look at  some of the people on these machines… most look like they have been on these things for a long time. I bet you they don’t own one…

My point is; you don’t need a treadmill in your home to get into shape or to exercise. But if you do start at a health club first go for a month every day at the same time…. preferably before 7:00AM in the morning. Most of us need a shift in the head and in our habits… we don’t need an electric treadmill in our home to get in shape.
